During the fast-paced environment of an auction, every second counts when placing a bid to win a desired item. To ensure users are fully informed on the process of searching, bidding, and winning on Invaluable, I collaborated with a team to create an onboarding video. This video serves as a quick, concise, and engaging way to guide new users—whether they are first-time bidders or transitioning from in-person to online auctions.
Invaluable Onboarding Video
Be Ready When You Find The Item of Your Dreams
The process began by collaborating with an external contractor. We provided a script and specific visuals to include in the video, but after several rounds of revisions, we decided to bring the final edits in-house to achieve the desired vision.
Refining the Storyboard
I took the lead in creating a new storyboard, with the main goals to remove the need for a person in the video to enhance anonymity and to incorporate more site screens and recordings. The illustrative elements throughout were redesigned to align with Invaluable’s brand, relying heavily on the primary and secondary color palette. This bold, branded approach replaced the initial, more realistic color scheme to create a cohesive and visually engaging experience.
Adaption
The video was added to the account confirmation email for new users and a “Getting Started” microsite talking through the basics of auctions and bidding online. With the increasing adoption of the Invaluable app by new and returning users, I adapted the onboarding video for mobile users. The video was reconfigured for vertical screens and added to the app’s logged-out home screen, with updated recordings showcasing the app experience to better serve mobile users.
